waving willows

April 1, 2012

I landed this morning just in time to go to Mass. Still carting around tagged baggage, and changing clothes as I went, it was surprisingly blessed to greet the morning with lessons and liturgy. To see the market bustle with sellers and buyers of willow branches. To watch the bishop blessing people’s palm buschen, and to smile at little ones waving their bundles from shoulder perches. To have my first glimpse of this country’s rich history be on such a significant day . . . though not intended as such, I cannot think of a better way to stave off jet lag :-)
